MAJORELLE GARDEN
Located in the heart of Marrakech, the Majorelle Garden is one of the great references in green space in Marrakech. It was founded by Jacques Majorelle, a painter living in Morocco since 1919, opened to the public in 1947 and bought in 1966 by Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent. The garden today exhibits, according to the Majorelle tradition, plants from five continents. Bamboos, palm trees, cacti, flower pots and aquatic plants are combined with great finesse and can only impress visitors. A timeless space, thanks to the soothing plants, the Franco-Moroccan architecture, which bears witness to the historic marriage of the two cultures and this mixture of blue and purple, the Majorelle color. This blue is present everywhere in the gardens, and stands out elegantly in the building of the Berber art museum, where we discover some 600 objects which tell the daily life of the Amazigh peoples, from the RIF regions to the Sahara.
Water is also king in the garden, since ponds and fountains serve as eccentric frames for the presentation of aquatic plants. The water lilies bear witness to this.
