MENARA
The menara is a monument of the city’s heritage, but above all a symbol representing the greatness that Marrakech has known. Built following the order of the Almohad Caliph in 1147, it was basically just a basin measuring 200 by 150 meters, used to store water during droughts. In 1869, the pavilion was built and the gardens planted with olive trees. Today, this monument is the source of many rumors and legends.
The basin is supplied with water thanks to a hydraulic system more than 700 years old, which transports water from the mountains located approximately 30 km from the city of Marrakech. This basin allows the irrigation of the olive grove.
Of course, beyond the pool and the famous pavilion, the main part of your visit to this emblematic place will turn out to be your discovery of the gardens. These represent the largest part of the surface area of this iconic place in the Menara. You will discover a gigantic variety of Olive Trees, almost forty, from all walks of life. But that’s not all. You will also discover a great wealth of varieties of fruit trees and date palms. If you wish to visit our site in October during the olive harvest, you will be able to see many workers present for the picking.
